We don’t hope for something we know will be. In my healthy 20’s I didn’t hope to wake up tomorrow. When I was working with an 87 year old client, she used to leave the sessions saying “I hope I’ll be around for our next session!”

Hope… My client realized that at her age and health, there was a possibility that she didn’t have tomorrow or next week. So she hoped for it.

Hope is part of resilience. It’s how we tolerate challenges and get through them. We need it to remember what is possible when things are unknown.
